Lots of Busses

Since the last update we have been in busses 26 hours. We got a Panamericana bus Monday night to Porto Viejo. We got into Porto Viejo at 5:15 then caught a couple more busses to Puerto Lopez.

Puerto Lopez is a quiet little beach town. We stayed at Playa Sur cabañas. We also went to a natural beach, Los Frailes, which is a few miles from Puerto Lopez. I forgot my cell phone in the bathroom when I changed and ten minutes later when I realized, it was gone. The frustrating thing is that it costs to enter Los Frailes so none of the (only) five families there that morning were in poverty. I would have much preferred to be robbed by someone on the street who needed it.

Took another bus to Montañita, a more touristy beach town. Its the kind of place where you could become a career beach bum—as seems to have been the decision for a number of foreigners who live there.

We wanted to go to Baños de Ambato but we would have wasted a day in traveling to a place that I think is a bit hard to get into because of the erupting volcano, Tunguragua. We decided instead to just head back thursday night. We took a 10 hour bus trip from Puerto Lopez to Quito.

I barely slept on the bus but all the same we went to Papallacta that day. Papallacta has hot springs and is about 2 hours (in bus) east of Quito. Since then we’ve just been in Quito.

We leave tomorrow morning at 6:30. I have a lot to do before then.

(ps if you’ve checked the page in the last two days, sorry about the half update, the server went down when I was in the middle of writing)
