In Cameroon
Hey guys, I’m here and alive and speaking a lot of french. I’ll be keeping updates here and hopefully I’ll get a chance to post some pictures. Internet is pretty hard to come by. A 2mbps connection (1/4 the speed of our connection in Austin) costs $4000/month!? (though I’ve seen more expensive than that from other providers)
Ok here are some things to know (in list form):
- I live with the Sangang family which consists of Georges (father), Jeanne (mother), Marius (23 but actually Georges little brother. He also likes electronics and computers!), Cyntia (~16), and Kimberly (7).
- The food here is real tasty and I eat a lot of fish and a lot of papaya.
- I live in the industrial capitol Douala
- It’s like summer in east Texas here every day. But I have air conditioning in my bedroom and my office.
- I have an office (btw)
- For a packet of data to get from my compter here to Rockwood Manor in Austin it goes through 14 routers. It also goes through the UK.
I’ve been feeling abnormally anxious at times and I’m not sure if it’s the Larium (the Malaria medicine whose possible side effects include halucinations, anxiety, and hair loss) or if it’s just culture shock. I haven’t been in a culture that has felt completely foreign since I first went to Ecuador in 2002. So please pray for that! The Lord has authority over my body and my fear!
I don’t have internet at home (or water right now either :) ) so I’m not on skype at nights but if you want to put some money in your skype account and give me a call my cell phone number is: 237 74203968 (where 237 is the country code). I plan on setting up skype out so when you call my skype it will call my cell phone, but I havent had time yet. BTW I am 7 hours ahead of US Central time.
Overall things are going well; my family is great and my french is coming along ok. And hey and post a comment or two if you read this so I know I’m not talking to myself.
